ewwwwww.

Forget magnet as it's not made of iron. Only thing that comes to mind is snorkel equipment. At 7', unless you got some 7'6" basketball players who could just walk around and feel for it with their toes. Like Ping here:

Hey Rock

I have suba gear, and probably could come over and help you look for it, if you want. Remember its like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
You can pm me if you want.

The crankshaft and cylinder liner are certainly steel and I would go fishing with the strongest magnet I could get me hands on...........old speakers are a good source for magnets.

I have thougt of using a magnet but finding one strong enough could be tough. Some sort of a metal detector would be best but diving gear would be next.I have tried mask and snorkel but just don't have the bottem time. The bad part of it is that it was one of my best motors,it was a sweet YS63.I don't know how long it will last be for corrosion damage will begin.

Good luck even with gps lock we could not locate a outboard motor that fell off and sank in the silt at 26 ft when visibility was bad. If you do it will be pure luck and I hope you do get lucky. Let us know how it all turns out OK.

Have you tried a garden rake? You could drill a hole in the end of the handle and attach a rope. Drop the rake in the water and let it sink and then gently pull to dredge the bottom.

Considering any damage that must have set it, save yourself the grief and buy a new one..?
What size was it?
We may have a solution for you.

It was not a crash, the motor actualy left the airframe under its own power and was a YS63 four stroke. If any body has one forsale I may be interested.
Terry.

If the water is that cloudy, then the bottom is certainly muddy. Even if it only sank 6" in the silt, you would never ever see it.
However, you have nothing to lose by looking for it, you may just get lucky..... I think a metal detector would be your best bet.
