Doing some detailing work tonight, on the WIldcat. There is an access panel for the trim tab, so used some aluminum tape, cut to shape, and then the round screw heads applied with a syringe, and drops of glue. Rib-stitching is done again with the syringe, but in thin lines. You can see the areas that are almost dry, the glue shrinks quite a bit, and once sprayed with primer, will show faint lines as per the photo from the Squadron signal Walkaround book I use for reference.

Nice! Looks like you've got the "Dark Slate Grey" (which is actually more green than grey) applied as well.

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

Nope, that's just the fabric colour, it needs a coat of primer, then paint.

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

One half of the rudder and trim tab done, primed, ready for paint. The rib stitching and rivet detail is subtle, but visible, pretty happy with the results.

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

Back on track with the Wildcat, firewall and fuel tank area is fuel proofed and primer on, air tank installed, gear is back in, aligned, and working great. Wheel wells are almost done, servo hatch built, glassed, and primed. Setting up the wings I think next, for panel line, rivet, hatches, blisters, bumps, shell casing ports, etc.

I like that hatch, Dave. Looks like plenty of room to get my hands in there.

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

There are a lot of panel lines, but with good reference material, plus a very scale plastic model, it certainly helps. I drew out the panel lines in pencil, and then went over the lines with chart tape. Once that is done, I sprayed a thin coat of primer over the side of the fuse, and then two more coats just over the panel lines. Once the primer is dry, I can then add rivet detail, any bumps, blisters, etc, and then a final coat of primer before paint. One side done, still have to finish the panel lines on the opposite side, and the belly.

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

I don't mind admitting, I doubt I'd ever have the patience to do panel lines. Maybe a couple of key ones, but not so many. And rivets? HAH! They'd be fitting me for one of those "I love me" jackets.

This is going to look awesome, Dave. And Marc's T-34 looks great too!

Also love the "prop" you use for setting up the cowl. Gonna steal that idea! The pitch is a bit too fine for flying tho

Re: Jerry Bates F4F Wildcat

True enough! lol Working on the panel lines, wing fold line, and gun bays for the right wing at the moment, so far, so good.
