More help needed.

The picture shows what I have.

A 3 cell lithium battery connected to the charger. A balancer connected to the charger via a data cord. A small plastic connector with 4 male pins at each side.

The balancer has a 4 male pin connector built into it at the 2-3cell station. The battery has a female 4 pin connector on the end of the leads.

The small plastic connector will not plug into anything. The 4 pin connector on the battery will not plug into anything, the plastic around the pins prevents this.

Could somebody advise me how this should all be connected and if I need additional adapters.

With Thanks

Ed S

Hi Ed

I ran into this when I bought a "Blinky' balancer. The Thunder Power Lipo's, apparently, have a unique size for the balancing plug. I had to buy an adapter so that I could plug the Thunder Power lipo into the Blinky. The pins are a lot closer together on the TP. From what I can see in your pic, an adapter might be required to plug a regular lipo into the TP balancer.

I'm sure others will pipe in but this was what I encountered.

Bob

Bob is right, you need an adaptor.

Most of the Lipo manufacturers use their own balance conectors, you will need an adaptor that will connect your battery to a TP balancer. I haven't used Lipower Lipos, so I don;t know what kind of plug they use,
There are JST, TP, Polyquest, Ribbon and so forth for different lipos.

Bob and Maqsood,

Thank you for the replies.

Does this mean that there is no standardisation for these plugs? This electric thing is starting to get a little frustrating. I feel I am being made fun of.

Yes, sadly there is no standardisation on these plugs.

Sadly, there are very many manufacturers of electrical connectors, all trying to sell their proprietary connectors. (look at all the hype)

Luckily, there are two very common pin spacings, .100" (same as a DIP IC, Dual Inline Package) and the more recent metric spacing.

Servo connectors are .100", some balance connectors are .100".

In case you are looking for connector information, look here.
