Nostalgic memories of modelling in Canada

I am a run-of-the-mill mod flier, living in Nova Scotia. I grew up in Ireland and got involved in model flying (as opposed to the long misused term of "RC modelling")_ in 1950. My first involvement with Canadian model fliers was in 1960, when I represented Ireland at the Free Flight World Championships in Cranfield, England. Perhaps the highlight of this event was being presented with a wonderful MAAC lapel pin by Canadian representative John Scott. This had the MAAC wings with the Maple leaf on it and was treasured for many years.

The next run-in was at the 1963 world championships in Austria, where a series of boring after dinner speeches prompted some of the Canadian participants (Pete MacQueen, Don MacKenzie and others) and myself to launch paper models from the balcony.
As I worked for a Canadian mining company in Ireland this inspired me to come to Canada in 1966 and I had the pleasure of renewing my previous friendships and establishing new ones.
I am sure that there are a large number of humerous anecdotes of events of times past which are worth repeating and I have started this thread with the hope that a few of these tales can be posted here.

I've only ever flown in Canada. But the nostalgia remains!

From my days a youngster, driving the older guys nuts with my natural abilities and quick learning.

To my days as an adult, being driven nuts by all these youngsters with their natural abilities and quick learning!

Darned kids!

Great thread idea,

Look forward to hearing what others have to offer.
