Well, after a tune-up (mods to wing mount), a Tx programming up-date (add D/R and expo) and a big melt (+8C) my yard was dry enough to use wheels for take-offs. Lessons learned on 2 five minute flights, full flaperons requires full power, and it can land in the same distance it takes off in.

The only thing that I regret is not making the tail moment a lot longer. It would have been easy to lead up the nose to get the CG further forward on the fuse (LOL dowl). The tail could also use a little more authority. But hey, considering it was kindling it is a cool little bugger to fly.

The Johnny Crash plane was wayyyyyyy, cheaper to put into the air than the next project. My son aquired a plane at the Edmonton auction, shortly after he had some news that was more important than gettin' a plane in the air. Good ole Dad decided to help him out, again, and now I'm the owner of a 120 Stinger. Thanks to Jeff @ Thunderbolt R/C by this time next week I should have my gas fleet doubled. Does anyone know who used to own this Stinger, I have a question about what it was powered with.

Re: Too much time and too many wrecked planes

Glad the maiden was a success for you Brent.

Now you got me thinking about using up some of my extra wings and tail surfaces from my dearly departed planes. I may try and put some on gutter pipe and get em flyin again.

I have a nice tailset and wing from my Tango that I think I will try first

And a Sig midstar tail and wing and a tail and wings from my F22 Raptor.... wonder how the Raptor parts would look on gutter pipe!

Curt, your not really expecting an opinion from me on that are ya?

One of the real benefits of re-cycling the wrecks is that there is no worryin' about splattin' 'em into the turf (snowbank, if ya got 'em). Like Merv's earlier post, it just plan old fun seeing if they fly!

Re: Too much time and too many wrecked planes

That's the beauty of this hobby, you can keep having fun over & over untill you run out of glue... or used parts.

I know 2 or 3 guys that have been known to scrounge the carnage after a fun fly for just this purpose! A couple of them just might post here ...

The degree of fun had isn't always directly related to money spent. Try using the imagination - it opens up a whole new world of personal satisfaction & yes even good old laughs! Sometimes success isn't measured by how well it works but rather by how hard you laughed!

Re: Too much time and too many wrecked planes

some days I wonder why we go all the way to the hobby shop, last toy plane parts I bought were at the local home hardware and a fabric store. I'm lookin' at Dale's old extra 300 in a whole new light... forgot about the drain pipe trick

Re: Too much time and too many wrecked planes

Well, I was reminded of what happens if you: One more flight before supper, and just let the Rx hang on the ESC wire. It comes undone!

A lawn dart would have been proud. I now am the proud owner of my very own golf cup, 3 inches deep into the frozen solid clay! Surprisingly it didn't take long to repair. A prop adapter, re-glue the servo mount for one aileron, and a couple scraps of 3/16" plywood and it good-to-go again.

Its kind of amazing how valuable the ghosts from a previously built kits come in!

If they don't I'm pretty sure Home Depot in Red Deer does!
