Hi all, I have two OS .91 VRDF Small head versions - one with a dynamx and the other with a ramtec fan unit - both have tuned pipes and are set to fly. I'm curious, here in Newfoundland we only have Morgan Fuels Cool Power 5% through 20% - the pink stuff , and morgan fuels 25-40% the green stuff... Anyhow I haven't paid much attention to fuels over the years - I usually run 5 or 10% in my aircraft - now it seems moving to ducted fan engines they are kinda particular it seems - so people say. So I guess what my question is, what fuel should I use from the above, and second if I have to add oil, approximately how much do I add?

Look at my thread on why 5%nitro in df's .
They have all told me to go with WILDCAT fuel with 5% nitro and at least 23% oil content.
Others have told me I can use normal 5 to 10% nitro stuff but because of the low oil content,I'll have to add some oil to it,just not sure how much!!

I've also been told that any higher nitro than 5% will cook our piston&sleeves
And seen as OS doesn't produce our engine anymore we should all take the necessary precautions

I think if you put half a bottle of Crisco per jug, we should be ok. It holds up good in the frying pan !

You can get KLOTz oil at Norburn. 14 bucks a litre. 2 choices 100% synthetic or 80/20 Synthetic/Castor. as far as getting you to 23% oil, that is pretty easy. Most of the fuel we use is supposedly at around 18% oil. If take your fuel, in ounces, it is 128. So the oil in it is 23.04 ounces. to bring it up to 23% you will need to add around 7 ounces. This will effectively lower your nitro a little bit, maybe 1% or so. If you want to be around 5% nitro, it may be best to mix up a batch of 5 ande 10% fuel, around 1:1 then put in the appropriate amount of oil. This should give you a fuel of around 6 or 7% nitro.

I'm not saying this is what is recommended. Just telling you how to achieve the oil content that you are looking for

Now Mike, all this talk about fuel is getting me excited. Please, bring that fan-jet to the field. It will take off the grass no problem. I know it. And if you have a tough time landing, I'll pour that Crisco all over the grass, so when you tear your landing gear off, it will slide real nice.
