For less than $20, those on boards are worth every penny. You will see the loaded voltage displayed when you move the sticks around. At rest the meter may say full, but the second you load a servo up the voltage can drop dramatically.

Re: Volt Meters ????????????

My Hitec Aurora displays the receiver battery voltage on transmitter screen and warns you with beeps when the receiver voltage is getting low.

Re: Volt Meters ????????????

Well, I can't believe the price they charge for these ( $1.99 USD) but because you say they work I placed my first order with HobbyKing.
Any idea how long a small order takes to get here.

Thanks,

dj

Re: Volt Meters ????????????

You can get a good digital voltmeter at Canadian Tire for around $10 when they are on sale ..
Just make up a cable from a servo extension to test your batteries.
A small resistor can be placed across the terminals to act as a load for the battery..
A resistor around 25 to 30 ohms rated at 1 to 2 watts will do the trick ..
( 1 watt will get hot ! ) [ you don't need to test for more than a few seconds ]
I put banana jacks on one end of a servo extension and wired the resistor across the banana jacks .. They will plug in to the place where you usually put the leads on the voltmeter . A 25 ohm resistor will draw about 200 mAh on a 4 cell NiCd and around 250 mAh on a 5 cell NiCd ..

Actually the battery testers with LEDs ( volt watch etc. ) are a good investment too as they respond very quickly to voltage changes .. good way to see how your battery reacts when you start waggling all the servos at one time .. digital meters are too slow to show all the voltage changes in that type of test.

I used a 10 ohm resistor in mine, draws around 1/2 amp at 5 volts .. most of my batteries are quite large ..

Re: Volt Meters ????????????

Hi,

I checked out the hexTronik Voltage Display at Hobby King described earlier http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=2038

I order 5, I can't even buy the connectors locally for the $1.99 price of the whole unit !

Thanks for the link.

Fly4Fun,

Wayne

I used a 37 ohm 1 watt resistor (on my Multi Meter) that I got from a friend of mine who is retired from the electronics business. We tested a few other resistors against 2 different volt meters and the readings were identical to both of them with the 37 ohm 1 watt resistor. Didn't cost a cent. Thanks Bob Reid and everyone else for their input.

Re: Volt Meters ????????????

I use my Hitec Aurora 9 TX and Optima receivers. Displays right on the TX screen. Latest software will show current voltage andminimum during a flight.
