Glider Group in South Eastern Ontario?

Hi guys

When I was a lot younger I was a member of COGG, it was (is) a great group to belong to, and now that I'm over in the Peterborough/Belleville area I've always wanted to start a similar type of group. So what I'm asking here is....are there any other serious glider flyers out near me that would be interested in forming such a group? Notice I said a group, and not a club!

I know there are several power clubs in my area that have members that fly electric gliders, but I'm more of a pure glider kind of flyer utilizing both high starts and a winch for launching. Now these forms of launching gliders don't really mix well with the power guys, that's why I'm after like minded folks that want a dedicated glider field.

If you are interested, please send me a PM and we can talk about the potential of such an idea?

Depending upon the amount of positive feedback I receive, I will either take this idea further or keep flying by myself.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi Blake, sorry I do not fly gliders, but GOOD FOR YOU in wanting to take the initiative to start a group. I find that in many clubs now, there are a lot of people willing to follow, but not lead.

Good luck with your efforts and I hope you get to establish your glider group.

Re: Glider Group in South Eastern Ontario?

It is difficult to get glider guys going, it seems everyone is a bit of a loaner and does not contact many people. I guess it is a nature of the sport in Canada, clubs do not support it and the field requirements are different then the rest of the hobby, so everyone does their own thing. I hope someone can prove me wrong on this point.

Re: Glider Group in South Eastern Ontario?

Hello Blake. I just spotted your post and grinned from ear to ear! I'm surprised there hasn't been more of a response. I for one would be very much into the formation of a group of like minded individuals for the soul purpose of soaring. I have toiled with the very idea you are proposing and look forward to discussing it in detail! PM me your Addy and tel number so we can arrange an outing! I have several virgin 1/3 scale beauties I'm eager to speak out!

Cheers
David

Re: Glider Group in South Eastern Ontario?

guys,do yourself a favour and look into DLG gliders. Skip the winches and highstarts . In fact skip the huge fields as well. You will never look back.
