Want to get into crawling cheap.
I have a heavily modded Savage X that I race and will probably pick up another nitro in the spring to race in another class. I'd like to build a crawler while it's cold outside. Nothing crazy expensive but something decent. I don't know anyone else with a crawler so I won't be doing any competitions. A WK or Axial to start maybe? Which is cheaper to get to a capable crawler level? is there another model I should look at?
Thanks. |

I would have to say the axial is the best bang for your buck. You will however need to get a servo, ESC and a motor along with radio gear which im assuming you could use the one you already have. Of course a battery also.
The wheely king can be a capable crawler but it requires alot of modifications which you may/may not feel comfortable doing... |

I would go Axial if you can swing it.
but if not they sell a wheelie king Minus elecs for 149.99 now( if you already have your elecs i would go this route.) The RTR is 209 or 219 i think. Mind you the wheelie king will need a bit of modding to become a good crawler. the axial is capable right out of the box once you add your running gear. and they come to about the same price when modding the wheelie king is done vs adding elecs to the axial. remember too you will need new wheels and tire if you go the WK route. either one will be good fun. |

If you are lookin for a cheap one, try lookin around on Ebay for a used one. Unless you know of someone local that is selling.
The LHS near us (Zoom Room) has one for $250 complete. I have gone the WK route and sunk a good chunk of coin into it, on a custom chassis, lockers, link mounts etc. Axial its a little easier on the build because the parts are all there (minus electronics etc). Once you get into it tho, it seems like the upgrading never ends

It is a good kit. Even us hard core crawler guys like them. Its not as good as a well built custom rig but its a great starting point. Its hard to fault the axial. Even the weak drive shaft problem they came out with a fix. the axils arnt that bad but they dont last without the little ring. I have a set of revo axils hanging around so mine will be getting them.
