Balsa Source???

Where's the best place to buy Balsa around Toronto? I'm looking for 1/4 x 3/8 x 48" and I'm finding it very hard to find anything in 48" Mail order isn't too practical obviously.

Thanks

Re: Balsa Source???

Have you thought about cutting them yourself? Get a balsa stripper and you can cut what ever size you need up to 3/4" wide. You should be able to buy sheet wood in both 36" and 48" and by cutting all your strips from a sheet you end up with all matched strips! All the same weight, density, and flexability. I havn't bought a piece of stick wood for many years. If you want to make a trip to Hamilton I will be more than happy to cut all the strips you want for you, just bring the sheets. Take it from an old scratch builder, it's the best way to build anything that uses a lot of stick..

Re: Balsa Source???

Pinnacle Hobby in Markham stocks 48" balsa. (www.pinnaclehobby.ca ) You can give them a call and they should be able to tell you if they have the size you need

Re: Balsa Source???

Thanks for all the info guys.

f4u: Where exactly is Don's Balsa? I couldn't find a number or a location anywhere.

Nuker: I've never been to Pinnacle but it looks like a good shop. I'm going to check it out sometime.

Foamfoils: If I can't find balsa my father says he can cut me some nice pieces out of some Pine he has, but his saw is in the garage and he says it can't be done till it gets warmer. Thanks for the offer. I might be down your way sometime.

Don's Balsa is at 116 Main St E. in Grimsby. (Just south of Hamilton on the QEW.

I'm not home right now, but I can get a phone number for you when I get back there Friday, if somebody hasn't already given it to you.

Don is a great guy to deal with, and has any size you want. If he doesn't have it, he'll cut it for you.

Regards,

Dennis
