Monokote/Ultracote Silver???

Thought I'd ask this here: Would like to hear an experienced opinion on current Monokote or Ultracote in the color silver. I have used both as a trim color recently but have not used this for a major color. I tried silver years ago in Monokote and had issue with this color. I am considering this color on a project as a overall color in a scheme I would like to use..Thanks for any help, opinions or tips on using the color silver, Regards Walt

Re: Monokote/Ultracote Silver???

I've used Ultracote silver on the bottom of a Carden 260 Redbull scheme. It's not easy to work with compared with other colors. I know I don't have to tell you Walt that the surface has to be like glass but, besides that, you must use very little heat on the silver ultracote. Just enough to make it stick. Anymore and it will blister easily. Once it blisters, you will see the blemish even if you are able to work the blister out.

Because it needs to be applied with such low heat, it will lift easy. Especially in areas like where the canisters exit.

Re: Monokote/Ultracote Silver???

Walt;

I've used Monokote Silver on a number of Cardens over the past 5 years. It's super-easy to work with and takes just a slightly bit more heat than white to apply.

It also can be matched fairly well with paint.

Because of it's gloss and how the metallic "flips" in the sun, the surface needs to be absolutely flawless and wave-free... even the slightest waviness will be magnified by the metallic.

Cheers

Trev

Re: Monokote/Ultracote Silver???

Thanks Trev and Mike: I thought I have seen a few planes here with silver use as an overall color. I have base coat paint here in the shop that is a dead on match to Monokote silver used for trim in the past. I want to try it and think I am going to. I appreciate the replys, it helps to get a mind set going, Walt

Re: Monokote/Ultracote Silver???

Hey Trev: I took a year and a bit away from the building board. I finished up some schooling required for my job and a few other projects. I have a cool project going that I will post on when its time. It feels good to have the dust flying again..Thanks again, Walt

Here's a couple projects I made for my High School welding fabrication vocational students.
