Hello Again Everyone!

I hope the winter building season is serving everone well! I have another question regarding the Aileron Servo mounting hatch I am constructing for my Goldberg Tiger 2. I am using 1/4" basswood stock as the mounts which I will epoxy to a removable hatch, the hatch base will be attached between two ribs on each wing halve. My qustion is , will the stock ribs support the torque generated by the servos and the force of the air on the ailerons/control arms? Should I construct some doublers or other stregnthening piece, if so out of what material?

Hi Adam
It wont hurt to make a doubler for the servo mount. You can use the same material as the ribs are made from. Try to make the doubler as big as posible to distribute the load over as big an area as posible. Mounting a servo for each wing half is a great idea. This will make the plane more precise and easier to control due to shorter push rods. Hope this helps.

I use thin ply to double the ribs for the servo mount. Usually 1/64th and go from the spar back. Easier to do after as you can hold a piece in place, trace and cut for fit. Also I believe the ribs are cap stripped at the location in which case I usually install a piece of balsa cross grain on the ribs for strength and having the covering attach too.
