I had the opportunity to fly this morning, so I took the Super Decathlon out and had a blast with it! The more I fly it the more I like it. Flight is fairly scale with the OS .46AX and JZ 11x6 wide blade wood prop, but it can make some nice loops, rolls, Immelman's, and stalls. Flies in on the approach nice and easy, greased landing almost assured. I've had to program in a fair amount of right aileron correction, but now that it's dialed in no worries.

Re: April Fool's Flying

Always wanted to build a Super Decathlon.. the Great Planes kit was an excellent flyer, but sadly not available now.

I was actually working all day, and was thinking the weather was perfect - 16 degrees, low wind, and sunny.

Supposed to be nice here for the next two days so flying is still possible

Re: April Fool's Flying

I finally got around to building the GP super decathlon kit last year.
I found that it is a great flying sport plane.
I powered it with a super tiger 50 using an 11x6 prop
It has more than enough power.

Re: April Fool's Flying

I had one years ago, it was my 2nd plane, and, at the time a bit beyond my skill level, flew ok but had a nasty stall (I think I may have been a bit tail heavy). not a good choice for a 2nd plane, but a nice sport flyer.

Re: April Fool's Flying

I too, had a small Decathlon years ago. It flew great until I let down on the wrong side of a line of trees. It was my favourite. I have an R/C guys Decathlon now. It is a terrific flyer with a 38 cc gas burner. I'll have it out of storage this week. I hope to fly more this year than I have in the last several years.
Best Regards
Bob.
