Ontario Aerotow schedule for this season
Anyone have an idea as to the number of Ontario Aerotow events this season? When and where as well?
Looking at joining in this summer with a brand new 1/3 scale sailplane I'm presently working on. Blake Last edited by 1kenda; 03-23-2011 at 11:02 AM. |

Jan
From your experience at these aerotow events, what is the largest/heaviest glider that the tug pilots can tow? Just adding up my component weights and it's getting up there! Blake |

Re: Ontario Aerotow schedule for this season
I have towed a 6M, 29 pound sailplane ( 3rd scale ). Typical sailplane is quarter scale and weighs from 10-16 pounds. Any of the tugs would handle this size. We tow just about anything, even down to 2M.

Re: Ontario Aerotow schedule for this season
Not ever been to one of these, so I have a couple of questions, how many people, gliders, show up to these events? Is it scale only? Jan are you going to tow your Easy Glider? I am in process of acquiring a 3 meter F3J, would that qualify if I could figure out how to seat up for aerotow? Many more questions but it is a start.

Re: Ontario Aerotow schedule for this season
Hi Dan,
We usually have at least 20 gliders if weather conditions are right. We try to have at least 6 tugs , all of which are capable of doing the 6 meter sailplanes- so a 1/3 scale should not be a problem These are fun fly events -so no pressure. All the participants are more than glad to offer assistance and advise At this point all the tug pilots are experienced so there will be no problem at the tug end If you are totally new and want a experienced pilot to handle your first flight and trim flight - no problem Open to all scale and non scale gliders Any other questions gladly answered This is a 2 day event and we fly until everyone has had enough each day, so you will get all the experience you want Regards, Jim |

Hey Dan,
I started out with my 3M Shadow, so your Grifter would be perfect. I could always let you try one of my birds for an intro session. I ilke these events because one can fly almost as much as they want. If your tugging and soaring you can be pretty tired at the end of the day! |

Re: Ontario Aerotow schedule for this season
The only thing is how would you tow a glider with a slide on nose cone?
I am planning to put together removable power pod to get some practice on it. Don't have a bungee yet , what size tubing would you need anyway? A lot to learn for the bigger stuff! Dan |

Re: Ontario Aerotow schedule for this season
I 'm sure there is a way to set-up the tow release on a nose cone. Common methods are to have the release rod travel over a hole or u- shaped metal wire. You would just need a clearance hole for it in the nose cone or fly without it. I had a histart from Hobby Lobby which worked great http://www.hobby-lobby.com/histart.htm . Hosemonster is another one I have seen recommended.
