They just don't make 'em like they used to.

I've found that the current crop from the office supply store tends to weaken, stretch, sag and lose elasticity very quickly. The process begins with the first use. You will alrady notice it the sedcond time around.

Very soon, they are essentially trash unless you feel very lucky. That means you need a whacking big supply and would be best off replacing them frequently - such as with every use or at lease every other use. Wouldn't want your expensive camera to take a flight of its own, would you?

I never re-use rubber bands anyway. A new set is so cheap as to be nearly free.

I think I have 40 oldtimers in the air and only 2 have bolt on wings. I use the Sig brand and have knotted them together in order to span the cord without any trouble what so ever.
I have also been reusing them over and over again for 2yrs and they are just now starting to get weak and fail periodically.
Time for a new box come spring I think.
