Sullivan Dynatron/ Lipo Battery??

Hi guys. I know this has probably been asked a 1000 times before, BUT, I was wondering if this Lipo hooked up to the Sullivan Dynatron starter would be a good combo.

BATTERY

STARTER

I am currently using 2-12V gell cells hooked in series to give me the 24Volts of power but it as dang heavy, so I was looking at this to trim some weight off.
Also, how long would that 3000mah Lipo last before having to charge it up again. Right now, I only have to recharge my 2 gell cells about 3 times a year.

Thanks
Curt

Should be a great combination. I imagine you are using 7AH gell cells. the LiPos you have selected are 3 AH. Charge twice as often, maybe more just to make sure you don't discharge them too far.

That is a good Combo I run 3s on my 12v Starter. I would buy a voltage led checker from HK as well i plug mine in once and awhile to make sure i dont drop the volts to low. Its amazing tho you will probably have more starts on a battery. I say this because the gels cant pout out the amps so it works harder and takes longer to start these just crank it over and your good

Re: Sullivan Dynatron/ Lipo Battery??

Just my 2 cents
One thing to consider is do you have a charger and power supply with the ability to charge a high capacity 6 cell lipo in a reasonable time frame.
Maybe two three cells packs might be a better choice.
The rated capacity of your gell cells is likely in the 7000mah range at 12 volts x 2 = 24 volts.
This Lipo is 3000mah so it would likely require charging a little more than twice as often say 7 to 8 times per year.
Winter time (cold weather) may be an issue for the lipo battery.
At 20C this should supply up to 60 amps under load at 22 volts.
One very important thing you will have to do is monitor the discharge voltage of the lipo to prevent damaging the pack.

Actually, the gel cells that I am using are 22AH each. They are about 3 times the size of a standard flightbox battery. They are used in commercial applications for backup powersupply for Fire Panels and such.

I do have an Accucell 6 that should do the job, but I had thought of a couple 3s packs in series, then I could utilize those packs in my electric planes also....Hmmmmmm
