Getting my bad luck out of the way early...

Been having some hiccups early on in the season. Hopefully I'm getting all the nastiness out of my system now.

Last week broke the tail servo arm off my Mongoose gasser - there are times when a non-driven tail pays off!

Replaced the arm only to have the servo itself fail - uneventful landing - JR8900 servo off to Horizon for repair...

Flying the Vibe90 this past weekend, the throttle servo failed and locked a little above idle. Was pulling out of a roll or loop (can't remember which), and it felt funny. Almost couldn't save it - hit throttle hold and landed way out - uneventful.

Replaced throttle servo, and checked everything else over for the bazillionth (that's a lot) time and went out late this afternoon with Bill Tinsley - only to break a piston ring and for all intents and purposes, lunched the engine...

Now I've got 2 of 3 main machines down - not sure what I've done to warrant this nonsense but I hope it's mostly over. I'm stretching my luck and experience/skill avoiding catastrophe here.

Anyone have a really good/new OS 91 sz/hz pumped heli engine looking for a new home?

Misery loves company - similar stories?

Hi Mark

I had my bad luck already as well. In February I was doing a 540 tail spin( I think that's what it's called). The engine quit on me and was not able to recover in time. I finally got all the pieces this week as I had to upgrade some parts. I hope that's all my bad luck as well.

Re: Getting my bad luck out of the way early...

Was talking with Bill Tinsley on Sunday. He went out flying Saturday....he broke a piston ring on his HZ91 too. Ruined the piston, ring, sleeve and scuffed the Viper head.

That's 2 good running OS91's in two days with identical failures - coincidence? I wasn't there when his ring went south, so the bad mojo can't be me...

I've decided to rebuild mine, and ordered up the parts today. They should be in Thursday. We'll see what this weekend brings.
