Run External BEC?

So the MMM seems to run well as a BEC for 4s. Are they any issues using it for 5s as well? Or should I purchase an external BEC?

the mmv3 has a switching bec that should handle any servo(s) up to its 6 cell lipo input limit

I'm not sure if the MMM is different, but the MMP's BEC can only handle 3amps so if you are using high voltage servo(s) then you either need to run an external BEC or one of the spektrum voltage protector capacitor's, like I said not sure if the MMM has a different BEC or not but its something to watch for, I found it out the hard way when I was trying to get my E-buggy going around xmas, the spektrum cap is a cheap solution to that problem though,

Running the MMMv3 I fought long and hard last year with this issue. Here is the answer, if you are running 1 high power servo (I was running a 7955) you dont need a external bec. If you are running a second servo for throttle/brake, you do, especially if you want your pt to count
Personally I would get an external bec regardless b/c you can regulate the voltage to 7.4v if you want. Thats what i did even when I went to a 1 servo setup. It also gave me a piece of mind.

Mine was fine with one ACE 1015, but I can attest to Porty's issues.... I would say that it never hurts to run an external BEC as well, there are some loops that will be pickier than others with low voltage on transponders... especially if the loop is near a turn.

any recommendations on make? In my limited searches there seems to be concern that some external BECs will fail high and blow the rx and servos

if all you are worried about is making sure the the PT always has power the spektrum voltage protector does that for way less work and money than an external BEC, just plug it into the RX and go,

Get what Nick posted and you wont need what bob posted. Dont know if the Ace are rated for 7.4, if they are and you are running a spektrum rx, run 7.4v.
