what do you all think of this idea for filed box....
its an old fishing tackle box ....4 drawers in it, gonna take them out... fuel pump and tank are goin to be in there same as battery....
on the lid where handle is is the voltmeter along with the power panel...
the starter and other things will be in the tray part under the lid....might make 2 drwers in center of fuel pump and battery
sound good? will try to post pics of this unit....or because i am goin to be runnin gas and glow fuel would it be wise to just buy a big tool kit and go from there....?and get a nother fuel pump for glow?

I use a 24 year old steel tool box. It has everything in it including storage of my radio. I can toss it in my Electrical Work van and it's as tough as nails! Everything is quite well protected.. Here's a pic
Cheers

Flight Box

Here is the flight box that I made last year. I wish I could claim it as my own design, but I found photos on the net that inspired me to make my own and make changes to suit my needs. In the bottom I've put ply dividers to separate the different components. The starting point is a 22" tool box available from Canadian Tire. I used a one gallon plastic gas container from CTC as well. The fuel pump (Hanger 9 hand crank) is mounted to the outside of the box.

Cheers!

Jollidude,
Very nice box, everything you need is there. One question though
l've always been concerned about storing fuel and electrical supply
in the same closed area. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks

I did think about that while setting it up. The fuel container is approved and made of heavy plastic and it is completely sealed. It can be turned upside down and will not leak. In addition, the battery terminals are insulated so even if a screwdriver or other metal object were to be dropped down there, it could not short the battery. Both the battery and the fuel jug are held in place by plywood dividers and cannot slide around. The wires are secured away from the fuel jug and are routed in a way that they cannot become pinched or chafed from use. I'm confident that I've taken enough precautions to avoid the dangers associated with the fuel. A good point however.

Cheers!

Hi Jollidude,

What's good about this is it brings the issue front and centre
to all RC flyers in particuliar newbies. What makes me shake my head
is the guys that puff on a smoke as they fuel up! Seems that you have
thought this issue through with safety in mind. My box is getting tired
this gives me ideas, thanks. This is the type of talk that helps all guys
in our hobby and why l joined, not the other self serving junk. Nuff said.
