The problem on this topic, unfortunately is that many modelers who are prone to abusing their engines like to blame things like the brand of fuel they are running.

I have run pretty much every major brand of fuel in my time in this hobby. Byrons, SIg, Morgan cool power and omega, Wildcat, some other brands that no longer exist like Apollo... etc.

The thing is, our engines will run on quite a wide variety of fuel, and do so quite happily (this is excluding specialty engines like YS, some top end heli engines, muti's, etc). My main criteria is does the fuel have enough oil content to satisfy the manufacturer's warranty (most require 16% to 18%). Nitro content from 5% to 15% will run 99.99% of every major brand of engine I have run- without too much difference in rpm or temps, etc.

ALl that being said, I run pretty much the same fuel in all my engines, from big to small. 10% nitro, 16% to 18% oil. I dont really have a preference for straight synthetic of a castor/synth blend, but I do know how to tune my engines and rarely get a lean run. If you are not so sure, run a mixed oil fuel (which generally have 20% castor/80% synthetic). That wont stop you from frying your engine if you constantly set it lean, but it may save you from the odd lean run that straight synth wont.

Keep your fuel clean and free of water by not taking the cap on and off all the time. That is IMO more important than trying to decide between 5% and 10% nitro.

You will find much helpful info 'straight from the horse's mouth' as they say rather than from the horse's backside as can often be the case. In addition, some model engine manufacturers have specific fuel recommendations in their support information. For example, YS strongly recommends the use of fuel with 20% lube in all their four stroke engines, unlike many other 4 stroke manufacturers, and for good reasons.

Hope this helps,
Boomer
Dont forget Wildcat...
