Re: Anyone running Weatronics in their jets?
A friend and I have 5 or 6 jets all with weatronic receivers on 72 Mhz. It is the BEST system going. Contrary to what LGM says. They offer power management, distribution, monitoring, data recording, 20 outputs that are fully programmable...Perfect for a jet. Each servo has it own setup etc. CAN"T BE BEAT!!! plus the advantage of dual internal receivers. put the antanae at 90 degrees....and you always have a signal......the only way to do a jet....and the simplest.....all in one....setup with my netbook.

Re: Anyone running Weatronics in their jets?
DW, couldn't agree with you more!
3 flights on the new gear now, radio link is rock solid ( I know because I have the data for every second of the flights). The set up is super easy once you learn the software. I'm using 7 channels to operate a Carf Hawk where I used 12 when I had it set up with JR. The GPS data is cool too, max speed of the Hawk was 172mph, hit max altitude of approx 450 ft. Mike |

Re: Anyone running Weatronics in their jets?
I ran 72mhz Weatronic for a couple fo years before moving to FASST.
If Weatronic had got their act together on 2.4ghz sooner I would have stayed with them. They are excellent devices and very compact for all the functionality they provide. The new compact 2.4 Rx's are amazing. You don't have to use all the fancy features just the dual Rx, dual battery by itself is great. The extra programability and data logging is really great if you need it. I have had zero problems with FASST - makes for a very simple setup. Sometimes simple is good. I always liked how the Weatronic was very powerful and had all these features but it didn't clutter up athe airplane with tons of junk - it is all in the one box. I'm looking forward to the 18mz with the new FASSTest (stupid name) RX's. They will be similar to the Weatronic ones with data logging, dual battery supply, telemetry etc. Very nice time to be in RC with all these great choices.

I think it shows that we really over do it with some of the set ups in our planes. Power boxes/ power safe receivers/ 16 gage wiring/ yada yada, all so that our system can handle 35amps. The reality is it only needs to handle 1/10th of that! Mike |

Re: Anyone running Weatronics in their jets?
Mike - I did a lot of testing in 2008/2009 with Weatronic, data loggers etc. The planes that really suck the juice are the big IMAC 35-50% ers. All that vibration results in constant servo load of 2 to 3 Amps as the servos (esp Digitals) are always fighting to stay on center. I never saw a spike over 10A in any airplane and even then it was for maybe 0.1 sec during a snap.
3A is still a very low load given the power systems available. Futaba and JR both say their Rx's can handle 60A spikes and each individual connector can handle 3.5A constant. I think the main benefit of the power supplies is the signal boost they give not so much the current. In my 40%ers I use about 1,000 - 1,500 mah per flight doing IMAC sequences. 90% is due to vibration, 10% due to a few high spikes during snaps, rollers etc. In my Boomerang XL I use maybe 100 - 200 mah per flight. No vibration to fight, short < 1 sec spikes of up to 3A for hard vertical pulls etc. In my electric 2M pattern plane maybe 100 - 200 mah per flight. Short < 1 sec spikes of 4A during snaps. Sustained "high" loads around 3-4A during rollers and KE flight. We WAY overdo our batteries and power systems for sure. I don't fly 3D but I imagine it puts some added strain on the current required.

Re: Anyone running Weatronics in their jets?
Those are some really interesting readings Chris. I never would have expected vibrations to cause that much current draw, but it makes sense when you think about it.
With an Eagle Tree Seagull unit, the max current I've seen in my Hotspot was around 1.2 Amps per battery pack. The setup was 2 x Duralite A123's into a Spectrum AR9100 powersafe unit. The current spike was coincident with a ~9g turn, so the current was predominantly taken up through the elevon servos (Hitec HS-9545MG's). Kelly
