Re: HK Avro Arrow

I didn't trust the stock fan, and from another guy in our club who tried it, wasn't enough power. He went to a much more powerful unit. I installed an E-Flite unit, that had side rails, so I epoxied wood rails into the fuse, simple matter of screwing the fan unit onto the rails. Older HK Arrows also had an issue with separation of the inlet ducting, which then got sucked into the fan unit, and destroyed same.

Re: HK Avro Arrow

The stock fan(three blades/screws) is a pusher type fan. The motor up front and the fan behind the motor. The motor is first then the fan, not like a tractor style. My Arrow flew fine, no problems. Heres the video of the last flight due to lost sight of it.

Re: HK Avro Arrow

One issue I think our club member had was the angle of incidence of the wing, with the aircraft sitting on the runway. His was pretty much zero. As with the real aircraft, perhaps a slightly nose high attitude would help. It's nice to see video of one flying! The bungee lauch certainly got the aircraft up to speed nicely. Hopefully more discussion on the HK Arrow will help us get more flying!

Re: HK Avro Arrow

When I did my first and second HK Arrow , I used clear silicone glue , so I could remove the unit later for service. This is a very difficult EDF for someone getting back into the hobby. It is very C of G sensitive and if the aileron expo and throw is wrong the game is over on bungee launch. Please check out the you tube videos for mine and Skyguard/buffythesaint etc. It does fly in the end .... but you should refresh your skills with something less demanding.

My KMP Arrow came with the holes drilled into the fuse, for the wing alignment pins. This must of had some positive angle of attack. I had 2mm of up reflex but I eneded up removing it after the maiden flight. I needed full down trim to get it level. I can measure the distance from the top of the fuse to the leading edge tip. I still have my busted up fuse.

I just measured, from the inside, the front alignment hole. It should be down 20mm from the inside or 21mm down from the top of the fuse to the center of the front alignment hole. The LE of mt left over fuse is crunched at bit but it looks like 21mm down to the tip of the LE.

Re: HK Avro Arrow

Scott, I am with you on developing the skills before the maiden for the Arrow. It's a jet AND it's a delta wing. Both offer challenges. My Arrow is RTF. I am not. I have been flying a Habu (til I borked it) and new a Twister. The twister does not have the tip-stall characteristics of the Habu so is really a beginning point. My Habu2 is ready to go now and will be flown a lot more before I roll out the Arrow. I have seen the successful videos so I know this is a worthwhile venture - it WILL fly. I eagerly follow the other owners of this airframe in the meantime.
