ESC/BEC for my Goblin 500 build

I am into this hobby for about a year now (started at the tender age of 56) and have 1 build behind me (TREX450 Dominator 6S) and have recently purchased a Goblin 500 with motor and servos included. I am currently researching ESC’s and am finding that there is huge selection to choose from for devices that do pretty much the same thing but vary hugely in price and is some cases appear to be knock off’s of each other i.e Hobby Wing Platinum PRO 100 vs. Hobby King Turnigy K-Force 100A Brushless ESC. This dynamic appears to exist in devices costing hundreds of dollars more as well.
I will never be a good enough pilot to make the Goblin do what it is capable of so buying extreme high end equipment seems excessive. Reliable, mid range performance would seem a more reasonable approach for me. I am planning on using an Ikon flybarless for this build. Any advice is truly appreciated. Also, any experiences you may have had with Hobby King batteries is appreciated as well.

Re: ESC/BEC for my Goblin 500 build

hey tyronian hope your enjoying flying helis. my preference is the castle esc. i run them in everything i have flown. from a 250 to a 750 with no troubles what so ever. the logging is perfect for set-up. just make sure the unit you get has the logging. as for the batteries, i have never tried a hk so i cant comment

Re: ESC/BEC for my Goblin 500 build

I'm using a Castle Talon 90 on mine without any issues. Sport flying and mild 3D. Thx, Steve

I'd go with Steve's setup , the 20 amp bec will work fine for your type of flying. You will rarely go anywhere 60 amps so why not.

With a external bec and the talon it's not bad, but with built in bec not a good idea..

Just a heads up or for warning!

thanks to everyone! I will definitely be looking into an external BEC. I attended the Fun and Fly at Markham Fair grounds. Saw some pretty amazing flying
