Don't forget,our ears are lousy sound meters. You have to make at least a 3db change for it to register on us. 3db reduction is reducing the sound pressure by 50%, and 3db increase is doubling the sound pressure. So if you can hear the difference, in reduction, you have cut it by more than half.
