Electric Starter Recommendations

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
Hi,

I have an old electric starter I bought back in 1971, and its getting a little weak. Rather than rebuild it, I was thinking of purchasing a new geared model that may not take as many amps.

Can anyone make any recommendations as to which make/model to purchase?

Thanks for your help.

Fly4Fun,

Wayne Miller

I got the Kavan Planetary Gear starter last year with a 14 volt 2300 mah battery pack. Completely wireless, holds the charge for a few weeks if you get lazy and it was able to start a Saito 1.80 in January with little effort

I have also switched to the Kavan geared starter. Works great.

Kavan Starter

Hi,

Looks like Kavan is the favourite!

I see it at Great Hobbies for $74.99, is this the typical price?

Thanks,

Yup but remember that the "battery holder" is not included a that price.

It's a black plastic box with metal loops to hold the starter. The box itself holds up to 14 sub C cell batteries for power. Most use 2 car packs and join then. Makes the unit self sustained.

I think I paid an additional $25-30 for it.
