Onto the baffling!

The Mintor turned out to be a little more tricky to baffle, since the sparkplugs come straight out (vs the DA200 I baffled, where the spark plugs are pointing down on an angle).

I had to make little boxes that cover over the spark plug caps and I angled all the peices to try to minimize airflow turbulence.

The positive thing with the mintor is that all the fins are machined to straight angles, so I was able to get a really tight fit to ensure the air passes through the fins.

Here's a few pictures before sanding and finishing....

Re: Mintor 220

And a couple more showing both left and right baffle. Still lots of sanding and finishing left.

By the way, I used 1/16" light ply this time and did no lightening holes - game plan is to paint it all white.

Re: Mintor 220

Here's a few shots of the grommets in the cowl..
* 2 exits for twin chokes
* 1 exit for tank vent
* big exit in bottom (3 times size of gap around baffle)
* 2 holes to adjust the carbs (top right of first picture)

I also had to cut some 2" extensions for the canisters using some 5/8" silicon tubing.

Re: Mintor 220

Back to the baffle....

I got the back plate done and got everything sprayed white and buttoned down.

I still have to install a foam seal around the top of the backplate to seal everything tight against the top cowl half.

All in all, it turned out really well and the tolerances are really tight around the motor.

Total weight of the baffle came to 3.1oz, including rails and hardware

Should do the trick

Re: Mintor 220

And since it's a new cowl, it deserves some Mintor 220 graphics!!

Re: Mintor 220

Balance check time!!

I need to add 7oz of tail weight to get the CG to come out the same as the DA150 on mufflers.

So, I will add 4.2oz of lead on the tailwheel and add a 3rd Hitec 7940 servo on the rudder (might as well get some benefit with the weight).

Total weight should come out in the 44lbs mark if my calcs are correct - time will tell!

Funny!!! I've gone over the airframe from spinner to rudder and beefed up a few areas with some balsa tri stock! Fingers will be crossed that the airframe holds up!

If anyone knows my flying style, there is only 2 positions for the throttle stick - idle and full throttle, so this will be the test of the century for the Slick!!
