Do Not shim cowl out it will look wierd and was never intended to be that way.

You do not neeed a dummy engine. IN the full scale Yak you can not see cylinder heads antways because the front is lovered cooling fins.

You can use plastic or 1/32 ply to make a plate to block the whole n the cowl.

That is exacly what I tried to describe. How did you hold it in Jim I used Silicone

The whole idea is to force the cooling air through the fins of engine.Next time you are close enough to a full sized high wing take a look at how tightly the air is channeled around the engine.Same thing with many weed whackers......the classic in to out ratio is 1 to 2 but channeling the air is more important. Not done properly you can actually end up with dead air behind the engine getting hotter and hotter with very unhappy results.

A different application but the principle is the same.

On our F3D pylon racers we used what is called a pressure cowl. Control line Speed and Team Race flyers have been using them for years.

The engine has a tight fitting jacket around the upper case. The incoming air is forced through the fins and around to the rear of the case. In my application I was using a tuned pipe. The cowl had a tube along it's length with about 1/8" clearance around the pipe.

Thanks

I picked up a sheet of 3/32 ply. Has anybody had any luck steaming this. I want to curve it so I can direct the air flow over the head then out the bottom of the cowling.
