Dynamite's MACH 28

Specification;
Displacement: .................................... .28cu" (4.57cc)
Piston /Cylinder: .................................. ABC
RPM: ................................................. 29000
Bore: ................................................ 18.5mm
Stoke: .............................................. 17.0mm
Horsepower: ...................................... 3hp @28000rpm

I just picked this up from the post office and will be installing this on my LST for break-in.

I will give you guys a review on how this engine performs. We all know how its predecessor the MACH 26 performed and how many people upgraded to it. With The MACH 26's inexpensive price tag, it is a very reliable engine that performed well in the harshest condition. Therefore I can only expect nothing less with the MACH 28.

Today Saturday the 2nd day of the 27th Annual Hobby Show at the International Centre will be my installation day and maybe a tank or 2 will go into it as I will have to go to work over the night.

Tomorrow will be the full break-in on this engine after I visit last the day of the hobby show where I hope to pick-up Power Racing's XR-80 1/8 Scale RTR Road Car. Wish me luck on a deal.

I tear my new engines open prior to installation. That means the piston and sleeves come out and the backplate opened. I do this to make sure that there are no metal shavings in the engine which saves me the grief of having an early worn out engine.

This also gives me the satisfaction that I have Loctited and torqued out the fastening bolts where it counts.

The engine was found clean and the crank shaft practically has no lateral play. The piston and sleeve was impressively thick and the connecting rod had no play on the crankpin. The Sleeve itself has 4 ports.

I wiped everything clean and used compressed air to blow out any debris and I used bearing oil on all friction parts before assembly.

Blue Loctite was used on all the fastening bolts. I also smeared enough silicone to coat the o-ring on the backplate to isolate any leakage.

Blue Loctite was also used on the flywheel and collet to prevent slippage.

The factory setting on this engine is 3.5 on the HSNV and 2.0 on the LSNV as per the manual.

I found that the 3mm opening on the ISS is a little too much for my liking. I set my idle at 1MM, My HSNV at 4 and LSNV at 2.5 for break-in.

If you are not aware, I use a custom mounted MGT tank on all my models as they are the best in my opinion on the market with a dual fuel pick-up with no primer. I was able to put 4 tanks through the MACH 28 and at break-in it was already putting out tonnes of power so I set the HSNV at 5 and ran it until it would not run anymore at that setting.

It is currently set at 4 HSNV, 2.5 LSNV, and 1MM on the ISS. At 1/4 tankful on my 4th tank, the engine awakened and hit 2nd gear. I was impressed. Take note as well that I have broken-in all my engines with what fuel I will normally run through it and that being Sidewinder 30N10SCOB.

Break-in was completed last night at the Brick. I will start bashing this engine when I come back from the Dominican Republic. Let you guys know. Got to continue breaking-in the XR/80 tomorrow at the BRICK.

I do what I do prior to breaking-in any new engine so I know I wont have to worry or do guess work on the engine during break-in. I am assured that when I encounter a problem it isn't with it. It assures you that the engine was buttoned-up properly spec'ed to your liking.

Two more tanks and I'm ready to push this baby to its limits. So far it has been an easy starting, stable idle, holds a tune, powerful engine just like its predecessor.

Just take the time to do it or better yet donate it to me for my LST. Jokes...

Your choice to open her up or not. Just do it and break it in.

As for diff oil, why run two different grades when you have a transmission in the middle. I use the thickest I can find which is 300K by AE for limited slip. I can see the reason if you had a middle differential but you don't.
