Yes I bought the Sig Clipped Wing version again.

My last one weighed 13 lbs.Put a 18x6 on the Saito 150 and loved it..If the wind was blowing it would almost have zero forward movement

yeah i've been busy all summer too with flying of all types. i'm building a clipped wing too and will use an OS twin in it. it is going to sound sooo good. can't wait.

oh yeah, where did you get your gear from? used? or from Robart directly?

i need gear like that too.
The o.s. twin will sound sweet, and look good too.

I ordered the robart gear through my local hobby shop, it was a little pricey but it really is cool.

Here's the link to the gear at Great Hobbies.

http://www.greathobbies.com/productinfo/?prod_id=ROB690

It's actually designed for a different 1/4 Scale Cub kit, You will have to modify the gear mounting plate position to make it work.

I have some pics of the mod and will post them in the near future.

I will only try to lighten it a bit.

I moved and at the time I could only take a couple planes with me

Re: Sig 1/4 Scale Clipped Wing Cub Build Thread

Although they may strengthen your structure, you'll find that there is no need for the gussets which you added to the Cub fuselage.

You'll also find that there is a lot of building to this plane. It's very easy. There is a lot.

I built the clipped wing version back about the mid 1980's and lost it only a couple of years ago due to radio interference. In it's life, it's been on floats and wheels and recovered once. It had litterally hundreds of flights, both on water and land, with absolutely no structrual failures or problems.

Power was an OS 1.08 - the largest 2 stroke glow engine you could get at the time - totally enclosed in the cowl. If I were to do it again, I'd use an OS 1.60 FX, since that would also fit entirely within the cowl. I'd change a few other things too. But that's just personal preferences.

With an all up weight of about 12 lbs., the 1.08 was way more than enough power. On floats, at full throttle with full up elevator, that engine would haul the plane right out of the water without a take off run. The larger engines whichyou are considering will only add extra weight. And they will also have parts hanging out of the cowl, looking very ugly.

Also a good idea not to try to make this plane a PA-18. They are entirely different things. If you cowl the engine, it would be more like a PA-11, but never a PA-18. Not only are the tails and many other parts different. the fuselages are too.

Here're some pics of my 1/4 size Sig CWC, on floats, in its first covering, recover on wheels - both times Koverall, a Sig 1/6 size, highly modified, again with Koverall and G-Mark .30 twin engine and a sketch showing the differences between the J-3 and PA-18 rudders.

Everyone loves multi cylinder engines, so here's a pic better showing the G-Mark .30 twin.

Re: Sig 1/4 Scale Clipped Wing Cub Build Thread

I decided to scrap the gusset idea, and I have decided to leave the plane as a J-3 and not bother with the super cub conversion. DO335 your cub looks really good, I like the finishing on the interior and the operational door. I was considering making and opening door, did you have to reinforce around the opening?
