Hog Bipe CG - 90 four stroke

Hi everyone,

I am about to glue in the firewall to the Hog Bipe. I am going to be powering the HB with an ASP 91 four stroke. I am wondering whether to glue in as per plans or to move the firewall back to offset the extra weight of the four stroke so the plane will better balance without having to add weight to the tail.

My question is: if you have powered your Hog Bipe with a 90 four stroke did you find it to be nose heavy or difficult to balance? If it will come out nose heavy, I can easily move the firewall back a 1/2 to 1 inch now at this stage.

If you know anything about this, give me some direction please.

Mine (OS91FS) balanced per the plans with a 1400 maH nicad pack immediately behind the lower wing.

I have a Saito .91 in mine on a dubro anti vibration mount. Battery pack is on the cg and it balances fine to plans.

I bought mine prebuilt and threw a 91 in it. It was not difficult to balance with out adding any deadweight......

I just bought the kit.

Any suggestions to change anything during the build would be appreciated.

Thanks

Well, if you want to bash it into a Pitts - check out the April 1998 issue of Model Airplane News. I may be doing something along those lines to fatten up my hog a bit. Have to wait and see how the completed fuselage looks on the bench first.

There is also a bunch of pointers here at this dedicated web page:>

http://www.fubarhill.com/sighog.html

Other than that I will let you know if I encounter anything notable. The more modern versions of the kit (which is what I am working on) is very good. Many things have been corrected, including dual aileron servo installation kit, and bent aluminum gear mounted in front of the bottom wing. Ie --> the known needed fixes are already done by SIG.

For simple covering of the headrest, I will be gluing 1/16 balsa sheet over the ABS headrest with thin CA. Then I cover over the balsa by traditional methods. SAve the painting headache.

I just couldn't bring myself to mount the engine upright so it's side mounted with a modified front end. It was converted to a "twin cylinder" with a shaving gel cap.

Hi

I don,t think I am going to do the Pitts thing but I really like the side mounted engine.

Cleans up the front end very nicely.

I think I will do that to my regular Astro Hog.

Thanks guys
