Re: Receiver Setup in Giant Scale Planes

For my 35 & 40% Large aircraft I use the following setup;

2 JR PowerSafe receivers. Each receiver uses 2 A123 LiFe batteries. Total 4 batteries

Throttle Left Receiver Choke Right Receiver (It can stop the engine)
Ignition Kill Left Receiver Smoke Pump Right Receiver

Rudder #1 Servo Left Receiver Rudder #2 ServoRight Receiver
Both Rudder Servos on the new SWB Self Adjusting Servo Tray with Bellcrank ($140) so that if one servo fails it will still move the rudder.

Left Elevator Servo Left Receiver Right Elevator Servo Right Receiver
2 Left Airelon Servos Left Receiver 2 Right Airelon Servos Right Receiver

From one of the two Left Receiver batteries I run the Ignition
From one of the two Right Receiver batteries I run the Smoke Pump

Wow! That is a SOLID setup! I guess because you are using the two powersafe receivers and the LiFe batteries you don't need a power distribution system and you have complete redundancy on every flying surface. What size of batteries do you use in this configuration?

Re: Receiver Setup in Giant Scale Planes

I use Electrodynamics A 123 Life 2300mAH batteries. www.electrodynam.com

The batteries are pre-wired with a EC3 connector that goes directly to the receiver. The other lead is a standard JR male connector that I can (if wanted) put into a normal switch to control the Ignition or Smoke pump. This JR lead can also be used to do a voltage check with their EDR 207 Nano tester. It gives a readout for each cell and the same lead with their adaptor is used to charge the battery on any balance charger made for Life or LiPo batteries.!

I also forgot to mention that PowerSafe Receivers use a very simple "Soft Switch" that is used to turn OFF the power going to the receiver. If the switch fails or if you remove it power automatically goes directly to the receiver. Another feature that makes it for a safe setup.

With my all composite 3 meter CARF Sukohi SU-31 with a 250 Moki Radial engine that I have about $9K invested, the price of an extra receiver at $280 bucks is cheap insurance!

For my 100 cc and 75 cc planes I just use 1 PowerSafe receiver.

Hey Helmut I sent you a PM. Are you going to Joe Nall this year and if so where do you park?

Helmut,

So this allows you to use Sbus but keep standard servos?

How much is one of these???
