Re: 6ft Scratch Built Twin Otter

Good start there Andy....

What are the specs of the model..
Is it suppose to be a foam build or balsa and ply but you chose foam instead...

Elec Re: 6ft Scratch Built Twin Otter

the idea is to build the foam first, to do some test flights with floats and a STOL kit on it the up grated version from my Pilatus Porter, the plans are from Scott of sdbmodels.com
i have all the wood for the second one ready to go,

Wingspan: 65"
Length: 52"
Power: Twin Phasor 15-4 on Electric power or .10 glow
Construction: All balsa/ply wood construction.

Short Kit includes:

The laser cut short kit includes all the balsa - lite-ply parts, formers, wing ribs, etc to build the model and no foam is used at all.

5/32" nose gear and 1/8" main gear, is pre-formed, Hardware is not included. And the stick/sheeting balsa stock is not included.

Building manual is downloaded & photo packed with construction pictures.

This is a very easy building kit. Add a set of floats and you have a great flying twin that fly's as good as it looks. All stick built fuselage flat bottom airfoil wing

You can build as a short or long nose and adding flaps is pretty easy to do.

so far so good
Have a GRAPE Week
Andy

Elec Re: 6ft Scratch Built Twin Otter

the bird it taking shape, i will see it a new modular servo tray will give extra stability and also makes it easy to just drop it into a new plane.
i still need some help in figuring out what power set up to use on this twin, i like to stick to a s4 set up.

it is snowing, looks like i have to put skis on the bird.
put in controls cables in-case i put the otter onto wheels so i have steering on the nose gear. connecting the outer wing and ailerons controls are a bid of problem well i will have glass of wine, helps with the creative work.
all the best

Re: 6ft Scratch Built Twin Otter

the floats will be fine andy trust me i do it all the time on my planes, soft snow they work better than skis. if you hit the dirt sections not so good for the bottom of the floats but you can make the choice. planes looking good.
