Ottawa valley jets 2015

Welcome to Ottawa Valley Jets 2015

We are a new MAAC radio control club that has formed in " Zone-G Ottawa Valley " we are not to be confused with a regular radio control club with a regular flying field but are in the same venue of " Dave Penchuk who puts on " Ottawa Valley Giants " which is a specialty Giant event yearly hosted by the Kingston Radio Control club.

The OVJ club att is made up of President: Brent Norman, Vice President Jeff Daly and Sec Ken Park.

Last year we pulled our collective resources and managed to pull off " Jets over Iroquois "
in the tiny town of Iroquois. We had 30 pilots and 2-400 spectators all in all a very successful first time event - That was the upside - The downside was the location was on the restrictive side in size with a few no-fly-zones to avoid.

So our goal if possible is to find a bigger/better location for the summer of 2016
With the aid of Dave Penchuk we approached the local "Carp Airport" on the west end of Ottawa and found the airport manager eager to grant us a NOTAM giving us a full day of flying set for Saturday July 2nd - We were told we should get some extra hours for practice late on the Friday. The event will be run like an airshow and we hope to attract a large number of spectators for the airport is what the airport wants from us.

Offically we are not all done with paperwork and the insurance etc but we also have a need
to get the word out so people can plan properly for 2016

Lots of great information to follow as things happen so for now we are announcing
the formation of OVJ but when you see OVJ we are talking about the Carp Airport Event

Cheers
Ken Park

Re: Ottawa valley jets 2015

Since we brought back a jet event back into Zone G there has been alot of interest in others from the Zone getting into building new turbine & EDF's planes

I've heard of 3 or 4 being test flown at the Stetsons RC Club this past summer.

I myself have a Reaction 54 on the build table and now have a Sebart Advanti-Mini being built - The Advanti-Mini wil have a P-20 on board when done - Att I've got all the servo's installed for all the flying controls - I should be able to transport my plane in my T-Matrix
without taking it apart yeah!

My jet has this color scheme

Hi Louis

Leason learned at Iroquois this past summer that is a must do for 2016 is having the pilots bring the models down after flying to get a little closer to the spectator fence with the models to answer questions. We hope to arrange a viewing station area just for this purpose

so reguardless if your flying or not anyone with jet models can be extremely helpful

Ken

I would be more then happy to at the very least bring my jet for others to see it, and I would be happy to talk to other spectators about the hobby and our jets. I will bring my SkyMaster F-15.

I am still a Jet Newbie, not sure if I will be comfortable to fly in front of a crowd yet. Hopefully I will get a few more flights under my belft to boost my confidence enough to also participate in the event.

I agree that the jets need to be closer with some guys to take time to answer questions and promote the hobby, I will at least be there to do that. Can't wiat!

Re: Ottawa valley jets 2015

Building the Sebart Advanti Mini:

The Horizontal Stabs are connected to the fuse with a carbon rod running through the fuse. The rod is secured with a screw at the ends of the carbon rod through the bottom of the stabs.

Like everyone else building the model has already reported the rod is slightly too short so you end up not being able to use both screws. I screwed one end into the right stab as per normal instruction but then epoxied the left side of the rod into the stab. This way the rod is always attached to the left side. Just be careful not to get epoxy onto the fuse
side when gluing.

also opened up the center hole bulkhead under the rudder to let you thread your servo leads more easily from the rudder and stabs so they can be threaded into the little FG servo lead tube that leads to the front of the fuse. I used long lengths of telephone wire to help fish the leads through the tube worked a treat.

Re: Ottawa valley jets 2015

Looking like its going to be a green XMAS this year in Ottawa - Getting some work done

Still managed to upgrade Main landing gear struts for the Advanti Mini with new ones ordered from Hobby King - Ordered a Powerbox voltage regulator and will use 2 x 2S-1800 lipos for the models power - also have a Powerbox Gyro.

I now have the Turbine Exhaust Alum pipe installed and the P-20 nicely centered and mounted on the mounts

Need to further order a P-20 sized UAT and a fuel tank

Re: Ottawa valley jets 2015

GREAT NEWS Ken. Besides doing the photos I have lots of relatives up in that area who can help spread the word throughout the local areas surrounding the airport.
