Important rule updates for Open SC classes this year

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
2WD Short Course Class: any "1/10th scale" SC chassis/motor/ESC, 6-cell NiMH or 2-cell Lipo limit, SC body required

4WD Short Course Class: any "1/10th scale" SC chassis/motor/engine/ESC, 6-cell NiMH or 2-cell Lipo limit, SC body required.

In both classes, "1/10th scale" means a truck promoted as this scale regardless of actual size.

Batteries: 6 or 7 cell nihm and lipo 2s only Motors: any brushed or brushless allowed. Body: has to be a SC style body and have bumpers Tires/wheels: stock style rim with 2.2" outer / 3.0" inner beads and matching tire of any tread pattern.

No 1/8 tires and wheels allowed.

NOTE: for 4wd SC, chassis limitation. This means you cannot convert an 8th scale buggy to a 4wd SC truck. I bring this up because I have seen this for the mugen buggy recently. Until mugen produces and distributes a kit specifially sold as 1:10 SC, they will not be allowed to run.

Thank's for clearing this up before any issues came up. Always better to clarify before rather than after an issue comes up.

1more question.. in the 4WD short course.. some guys run the 4 pole 540 can motors with 1/8 scale ESC's.. is that ok to run?

cause the way its worded it looks like only 1/10 scale ESC's are allowed..

just a question that may arise..

Great question,

Directly out of the rule book:
Motor – any electric motor with maximum can diameter of 36.5mm. Only
ceramic, Neodymium, or Ferrite magnets are permitted. 550 style motors are allowed.
Brushless systems are allowed as well.

I had no success in running a Tekin RS or RS Pro with a 550 size can last year.
I think SCT's NEED the 1/8 scale ESC!

If the rule book says you have to run a "1/10 scale esc"...... I vote we bypass or veto this rule

Chewy, just say that you're "prototype testing" for Mugen!

Yup I agree Chewy...how can rules be written that this Manufactuer is ok but not this one. There should be specs for :
Weight
Length
Width
(and of course more I am just being broad)

If it fits in those it is allowed. The Losi is an 1/8th scale that is "marketed" as 1/10th. Lets say a Mugen ends up being the same dimensions as a Losi SCT in all of the above...logic should provail and say it can run

The losi is not a 1/8 scale, it looks like it but everything is smaller and has zero parts that are interchangable with the 8ight buggy. The Mugen is nothing but an 1/8 scale with parts thrown on to be an SC.
