I am starting a 1/4 scale Balsa USA kit and am looking for ideas on finish scheme. Or any names of books I can get for reference. This will be my first attempt at full scale building.

Scott,

Great find. I use that site often for looking up Extra 300 and other Aerobatic schemes but never thought to look for WWI Warbirds.

This is my favourite of the bunch.......

this is a easy plane to convert to a computer model(3d).Draw a line the Base length from the beginning of the cowl,to the end of the fuse,underneath the stab.then draw a small rectangle at the aft end ,the size of the the fuse,at the vertical axis,and draw the circle for the cowl at the fore end,just before the cowling starts.Extrude that rectangle to the circle,then slice that extrusion along the bottom...from rectangle to where the cowl begins.now,slice that extrusion every 4 to 5 inches to produce drawings for your fuselage formers,and slice the cockpit area,according to the dimensions of your full scale photo .Suddenly you have all the necessary elements to build that box to cylinder, former with stringer,balsa construction.
