Does anyone own one or had one that can tell me if it is a good engine?

I have a chance to buy one localy (n.i.b) and I would like to know more before making the purchase.

You will get mixed opinions on GMS motors, but I run the GMS .47, .61 and .76 with great success. They take longer to break in, but once broke in and tuned, they turn into real powerhouses and are very reliable. Make sure the carb is seated firmly down onto the o-ring to eliminate an air leak.

If you don't like to fiddle a wee bit, then go for an OS. If you like to save a lot of money and can tune an engine reasonably well, then the GMS 1.20 should be fine.

Cheers

Re: Gms 1.20

I just bought a used one this winter. It turns an APC 16x8 at 8200 RPM. It runs very reliably.I wouldn't consider mine to be a powerhouse, but it is a very reliable motor. His asking price makes it a great deal. I would not hesitate.

George, I know that is the recommended prop for that motor, but maybe try a smaller one, 16x6 or a 15x8. All my GMS motors love higher RPMs to develop good power, not sure on the 1.20 as I have never owned one!

I think I will go for the deal..

I think it is a ringed motor.. so will the break in procedure be different than an ABC motor??

Just follow the manual for break-in and you will be fine.
