New set up issues

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
Hi everyone, having issues with a new set up, hoping someone can help here.
Current setup:

HK 250GT FBL (with more Align parts than original)
HK 35A ESC
1280KV motor (tooth count unknown)
3 - HKSCM9-6 Singlechip Digital Micro Servo (6V)
1 - ES08MD servo for tail rotor
FR Sky V8FR-II
Tarot ZYX-S FBL controller

Here's the issues:
1. ESC beeps various tones, however motor doesn't engage (do they need to be re-programmed for a new set-up?) --- and yes, throttle hold is off
2. Set up FBL controller as per instructions - stick inputs match outputs on computer program - However: elevator and cyclic outputs were reversed (had to swap the cyclic and elevator inputs to get correct output - program now shows cyclic input as elevator & vice versa)
3. After setting up FBL controller with recommended TX settings: servos hit their end points with minimal stick movement, and leaves a whole lot of dead stick space
4. servo response is delayed about 1 sec
5. cyclic motion is delayed, and slow (after releasing sticks, servos will eventually find their centers again)

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: New set up issues

can you post a link of the exact esc and motor your using.

A 250 usually runs off 3 cell and the motor is around 3600 kv or so.

I'm almost done building a trex 350 pro dfc with a zyx-s and it takes the correct receiver setting in the software of the zyx-s to get the channel mapping to work correctly with the Tx.

Pretty much trial and error. Go through the list of options(might not be the exact set-up your actually using) until the channel mapping screen in the software interacts with all the correct channels correctly.

Re: New set up issues

It sounds like you may need to do the throttle calibration for your speed controller.

I'm not sure about 1280KV motor on 250 sized heli.

The current FBL kits come with a 3600KV motor designed for 3S. (120 Teeth on the main gear with a 15T pinion can send it north of 5000 RPM on a full 12.6V charge).

Doing some quick math on that motor with a 2S battery (assuming the same gear ratio) with put you around 1200 RPM... I think you'll need over 3000 RPM just to get it moving..

Are you running a separate BEC for those servos? They'll run at 5V from the RX, but they're faster at 6V..

Re: New set up issues

All the reviews I've read stated 2s was an acceptable battery, not going to win any competitions with it. All the equipment listed was what was recommended for this machine.

The current set up has the stock ESC, no separate BEC circuit.

Kit:

Motor (My mistake, its a 3800 - having reading issues today):

ESC:

Thanks for the quick replies
Cheers

Re: New set up issues

The links you provided are not the same equipment you said above.

You said 35a esc and link is a 30a, and you said the motor was a 1280kv and you provided a link for a 3800kv motor.

Which is correct, the 1st post or the last post with the links???

What do you mean by swapping the cyclic for the elevator in the software on the zyx-s. That doesn't make sense....cyclic means all 3 servos, the elevator, aileron and pitch.

It's either the software set-up like I mentioned with the channel mapping or the esc needs to be programmed.

Has the esc ever been programmed?

Re: New set up issues

My apologies. When I wrote the last post, i was at work, the heli wasn't in front of me at that time. The links provided are for the correct parts.
When I indicated swapping cyclic for elevator: this refers to the output on the RX. Elevator on Ch2, Cyclic (or pitch should be the better term) on Ch5. In the software, post wire swap, shows pitch action on the elevator indicator, and elevator action on the pitch indicator.
As for the ESC being programmed - I purchased this machine half built, the ESC was already attached to the motor. Naturally, I assumed the previous owner had programmed it. Probably not, now that we are discussing it. And it will only take me a few mins to program it. I will update with the results of the programming.
The things that still bug me relate to the servo outputs from the FBL controller.

Ah ok, that makes a lot more sense. The kv on the motor you provided in the link is the proper kv, that's why people brought up your earlier mentioned motor, telling you it was wrong because it was only 1 third the kv lol.

Ya I would run through the set-up just to make sure everything is how it should be.

Let us know how you make out.

I think you have the same problem I had when setting mine up on the DX9. The Spektrum DX9's channel mapping is a little different I think compared to dx8, etc. Since your using a FR Sky V8FR-II Rx, I'd suspect your using some off brand Tx, so the mapping may be different.

Which is probably something similar to the issue your having.

Try this, re-wire the cable from the zyx-s to the receiver in the proper spots that they should be in according to the diagram in the software. Then, try a few different receiver types on the receiver tab in the software and see if you can find one that when you go to the monitor tab on the software, all the channels work properly.

I am currently working on setting 2 up, one with a DX8, and the other with the DX9. All the video's I found said to put the receiver type to dsmx-2. Although this worked for the DX8. With the DX9, I had issues with channels not working correctly and found that I had to switch my receiver type to dsm2-3 in the software for everything to work correctly even thought I was using a dsmx sat.

Check out this thread I started on the zyx-s, check out posts 22-28 regarding this issue. https://www.rccanada.ca/rccforum/show...=209982&page=3

Re: New set up issues

Sounds great, I'll give it a go when I get some time. Starting a 4 day run of 12hr shifts, so time will be a little lacking.
I'm using a brand new FrSky Taranis, so I can output the sticks onto any channel of my choosing. Excellent features, however its definitely a complex learning curve, but I'm getting the hang of it.
Will let you now how I make out.
Thanks again
