Since it's the building season, I thought I'd toss these airplanes into the ring for all those who have extra engines lying around, and no imagination.

Ugly and Ugly 2, one would have to be their Mother's to love them! Ugly 1,Hmmmmmmmmmm maybe a science project gone wrong. However do not let criticism prevent YOU from building them.

It would be too cruel to subject some balsa tree to such an end!

Ugly 1 is well...ugly, but interesting just the same. Appears to be an 8 jet engine propelled flying boat missile launcher?????????? : Wonder who built this thing?

Ugly 1

I remember see this one the Discovery Channel.

IT is NOT a Plane it is a FFAASSSTTTT BOAT from the USSR.

Take a look at the wings very small for a jet this size.

IT just flys across the water a few inches above it.

Ugly 1:
Judging by the size of the "cockpit" windows, that must be "one mother" of a "whatever"

4*60 is correct. I saw these vehicles on the History Channel about a week ago. The Soviets produced a couple of different models. They all flew in the ground effect area and no higher. The show ended with a commercial application of a ground effect flying craft used around Australia for travelling between islands.

Vickers Velos

Here is something about the Vickers Velos (Ugly 2), taken from the Canadian Department of National Defence website.

"Canadian Vickers Velos G-CYZX was the Air Force's one and only of this type and was on strength for only a year from 18 November, 1927 to 30 November, 1928. In 1926 the Department of National Defence awarded a contract to Canadian Vickers to design and construct an Aeroplane for Photographic Surveying. However, with the design completed and construction of some of the components well under way, if not complete, the specification requirements were changed, eventually resulting in an Aircraft that the RCAF designated test pilot summarized as: "It is considered that this Aircraft is most unsuitable for any operation carried out in the Royal Canadian Air Force.""
