Re: Resurrect Arrow 1/8 scale

I saw one of the full scale mock-ups of the Arrow that was done for the movie in a hangar at Abbotsford airport. The guys there wanted me to design a hydraulic drive so they could have it do a "roll by" at the airshow. When I told them it would cost at least 10K to put something together I was quickly shown the door..... Suggested they just tow it with a tractor. Never did see it leave the hangar.

The really interesting part was how "Hollywood" the construction was. Built very similar to the fake building fronts they use for movies where there the front is there but nothing behind. Sure was neat to see the scale of it though. This was NOT a small airplane.

Looking forward to watching this thread develop and to see the end result. Nice job guys.

Re: Resurrect Arrow 1/8 scale

My Dad passed away last month and one of the items I acquired was a painting done by him of the arrow. he wasn't in his own words much of a painter but copy anything he could do .Not sure what I am going to do with this picture as jets just aren't my thing .It is painted on a piece of white plexi glass type material and is jus a little bigger than my scanner top. He was also an electrician and worked on numerous Arrows. He told me there was miles an miles of wires inside the plane and if there was an electrical problem that couldn't be tracked down quickly just run another wire . They all had numbers on them every so many inches. The one place he really disliked going was into the wing fuel tanks,If I remember right they could actually get inside the wing but was a tight squeeze, you also need to remember I was just 11 ish when these where in production . I also remeber when the contract was cancelled that the town /village of Malton almost died as it had lost its largest employer

Question Re: Resurrect Arrow 1/8 scale

Hello All,

How do I get in on this project?? I am an Arrow nut. I have just about every book and video. I even have 4 signed Jan Zurakowski phots of Arrow in flight.

I have two Hawk 14 turbines (MW-54 type) looking for a home. An Arrow, here in Edmonton, would be awesome.

Is this the Doug Hyslop design....The one he told me he'd never sell or sell 'kits' of?

Please advise. dwkach@connect.ab.ca

Dave

Cool Re: Resurrect Arrow 1/8 scale

Hey DW Crash this arrow is not the Doug Hyslop design, it is the same size 1/8 . I talk to Doug yrs ago just after the movie was made as I was trying to have my arrow finishes for the move after meeting Jim Floyd and hearing about a movie being made.Doug ended up getting the contract, Doug had twin K&B 100 for power. It was pretty cool he had to fly his arrow and sit in a heli and follow it for filming! Hear is a pic, of my arrow with Wilf Farrance & Jim Floyd (1999 I belive) this is the fuse we are building.

Re: Resurrect Arrow 1/8 scale

Hi DW, , ,

I built two of these 1/8 scale Arrows for ducted fan way back about the late 70's.
One was sold to a TV prop company back then, to be used as moulding plugs, and the second was sold about 4 years ago here in Ontario.

Notice that it was a one piece wing.
Similar to a high wing trainer, the one piece wing was designed to be bolted to the top of the fuselage.

The big improvement is now we have turbines. Alot more power and way more dependable than ducted fans.
Also, , , this new Arrow will sport two piece plug-in wings.
