Here it is almost complete. I still have to make the flyweights and may shorten the fly bar. Those of you who understand the mechanics of a heli head will figure out how it functions guys like Don, Max and Cougar to name a few. Any questions please ask. I'm selling the lathe I made this on if anyone is interested in buying it, I have a larger one coming on Wednesday and have to make space.

Re: Four blade fly barred head

Out of curiosity, why are you building a flybar for a 4-bladed head? Curiosity? Experimenting? Or just because you can?

Re: Four blade fly barred head

All the above Dave and I hate learning new electronics. My other reasons are vibration will not affect the job of the fly bar unlike electronic stabilisation and will not kill my batteries nearly as fast like a Beastx will. I normally use cheapo Hobby King stuff in my helicopters and only use Align if I think it would to be my advantage. I'm an old fart so learning new gizmos, programs and computer stuff in general I find painful. I also like making things out of my head I rarely use plans except to understand the function of things I want to build.

Re: Four blade fly barred head

Fair enough answer... looking forward to seeing how the final product performs.

I also will be waiting for the flight test so please have the camera running from the spool-up as I am interested in how it will react. I have my own thoughts on this setup and the results of it spooling up. Keep up the work.

Re: Four blade fly barred head

Almost there the hole is drilled for the Jesus bolt, linkage to spin the swash plate is almost finished and the clamp bolt is drilled and threaded along with the very poorly cut slot for it. The swash plate linkage has to be repaired or replaced I haven't decided on that yet because it does not move freely. The poorly cut slot is because I'm still learning how to use my new lathe so that is my fault. Pictures of it's progress and some lathe pictures too.

Re: Four blade fly barred head

Looking good, jim. Even the rough work.

Nice relic of a lathe you got there. Betcha it lasts another 100 years!

Re: Four blade fly barred head

Made in 1944 and when I pulled it apart it showed having signs of very little use. Now to become skilled at using it!

Re: Four blade fly barred head

Almost done still have to tighten the clamp bolt then I will strap the training wheels on and adjust the fly bar blades for a slight even lift. Hopefully tomorrow I will get the fly bar blades set up, that will be interesting The amount of lift I want will be enough to compensate for the extra weight. Those that say it can't auto rotate would be right, even if I could I can't, who knows maybe it will. Keep in mind there are no plans for this so I couldn't repeat it exactly, all a case of maybe this will work.

Re: Four blade fly barred head

Took it out today to try it and make the needed adjustments. Biggest problem is vibration which got better after adjusting the phasing and flybar location, but I'm still not happy with it. What I will do is put the complete head on my blade balancer and see if I can get it better balanced. All things considered it flew well for the problems it had. Here are some pictures of it after flight I will take a video once I get the bugs out of it.
