After its all glassed and sanded the foam blank is carved out with a knife. It's a labour intensive operation, but I have built several cowels this way and they come out strong and fairly light I can post some pic's of ther prosses if you like.... Bill

Looks good as usual Bill. I have a 300 extra and a Dazzler you could build from boxes of sticks.
Hey your not using gas again?? Hey you have how many planes on the bench?? I got the stuff for my flex fly.

Do you know if there's any way to coat the blank so that it comes out without demolishing it. I need to build a cowl for an Edge & if history repeats itself, I'll probably have to make another one some day after an "incident!" BTW that is a very interesting plane you're building. Nice to see something different. RB |

If you build the plug and then use it to make a mold, then you can make multiples from the same mold, but itès a lot of labour. I'll take a cople pic's of the prosses I'm using and post them. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Looks good as usual Bill. If you supply the gear I'll build the extra for ya...but I get to do the test flight :P Bill

Re: Dornier DO28 Skyservant (Build Thread)
I have a bit of sheeting on the cockpit area, and the engine nacelles aer coming along. I installed one of the engines and fuel tanks, and the throttle servo.
Lots of clearance from the ground and the fuse, with a 12 inch prop. Bill

Once you've got your fibreglass cowl ready to finish, what kind of primer and paint do you use? I have mine to the point where it has 2 layers of 2 oz. cloth & (hopefully) a final layer of 0.5 oz cloth on it. Probably needs a coat of resin with filler then hopefully sanding/priming. Thx, RB |

After the cowl is done, you can paint it with what ever you like, so it depends on what you are finnishing the plane with to get a colour match. Bill
