If you have Acetone handy, it will dissolve CA off your fingers. Just tonight I unexpectedly found my forefinger stuck to my thumb from trying to hold two bits of balsa together while the CA dried!! I poured Acetone over them & they separated without ripping away any skin.

Cautionary tales are well worth posting. It's so easy to forget how nasty the stuff is & end up in a real mess.

Putting a new bottle in the fridge for awhile, before opening, is better than leaving it on the hot dashboard.

Re: God I hate this CA stuff!!

Okay, taking the risk of being labeled a spammer here but, have you tried Super Phatic?

I started building models in the '70s migrating from Lepages wood cement to Ambroid, to yellow carpenters glue. Along came CA and I battled with it through many builds and skin bonds until it started triggering my asthma....

I went back to Yellow carpenters glue (and still use it for parts of the build) but these days I build primarily with Super Phatic. Faster and lighter than the aliphatics I know and love and I can still use my CA-style build techniques.

Yes, the importer is a friend but don't take my word for it try it or at least check RC Groups, RC Report, RC Scalebuilder etc. heck just google it for direct modellers experience.

Re: God I hate this CA stuff!!

Something we have all forgot to mention is that if you are introducing young people to the building experience do not start them out on CA.
As mentioned weldbond, carpenters glue etc. is the safest way to go until they gain some experience.

Re: God I hate this CA stuff!!

I was way up north hundreds of miles from anywhere working on Chinook helicopters and I got a bad cut on my hand that wouldn't stop bleeding. I Had a bottle of CA in my toolbox used it to glue the cut together until I got back to civilization Worked pretty good.

Didn't it hurt when it went into the cut?

Requires some clamping and takes longer to set up, but I prefer it. The clerk tells me Thin CA is the only way to go. So I bring a tube home to at least give it a try. After reading the instructions I use a razor blade to snip off the top. Seems I may have had a bit too much pressure on the tube as some of the glue leaked out the top. Before I realize what happened I have a razor blade stuck to my finger ??:. Not too worry, having read the instructions I immediately soaked my finger and its new appendage in hot soapy water. That seemed to help but not completely, so I used some fingernail polish remover to finally break the bond. Feeling none the worse after the incident I returned to my building project. Oh Rats!! Now the CA tube is stuck to my workbench!!
Am I alone in this type of experience??

Unfortunately, $hit sometimes happens

Rule #1 - NEVER look at the neck of thin CA without glasses on.
Rule #2 - always have a bottle of CA solvent handy. I keep one with the CA glue, so its available when I need it.
Rule #3 - NEVER EVER have your hands near CA when you hit it with the kicker. The stuff gets hot enough to burn & blister skin when it sets off. Same for when you use a filler like micro balloons or baking soda.

There are more, but basically like any other adhesive the more you use it the more you become comfortable with it and learn the tricks, and techniques to use it to the most productive with the less issues.

I have used CA to glue together my cuts for years and years. Your body sees CA as "inert", and wont react to it. However, dont try and close an infected wound with it (trust me... it sucks) if its -----, let the ooze out. You can only glue together a clean wound safely.

My wife, an emergency Dr., usues a similar product in the hospital to close wounds (basically a medical grade of CA) and also the vetranarian also uses CA on dogs. I have used hobby CA to close cuts on my dog's paws, etc.

Re: God I hate this CA stuff!!

I remember reading somewhere at CA was initally developed for military use in the field, to quickly close wounds.
