To ratchet or not to ratchet

So I got a new tx. The 9303. Being that it is brand new it has a crazy amount of ratchet on the throttle. I really don't like it and I was flying for a while with a buddies loaner heli tx with no ratchet. I liked the lack of a ratchet . So At first I thought I would get rid of it, but then I thought maybe its a good idea for IMAC flying because you can feel every move on the throttle. Now I just don't know.
Any opinions?

I have a ratchet on mine, and flew a plane with a friends TX with no ratchet and I liked it, but I can see your point with IMAC...might give you a better idea of what your flying with power wise when its not so easy to hear. I say wear it in then see if you really want to go with no ratchet.

It should be easy to change, but I agree that you should fly it that way first.
When I got mi 8103 I got a heli radio to avoid the clicker, back in the day the transmitters had about 5 notches and non of them were right so I got used to no rachet.

Open the case, and releive some of the ratchet. There is a screw that adjusts it. It explains it in the manual. That you, can have some ratchet, but not too much.

Or do like Mike A does, and file big grooves, so the stupid throttle SLAMS into half throttle!

Please dont do that! It has to be one of the worst things imo you can do, just builds terrible habits that are hard to get rid of.....I used to do it and I bet it took me a year to re-learn how to fly properly again.

The idea of doing that came from years back (likely from Ivan) flying the rocket powered pattern planes with simple sequences....with todays power levels and sequences using a single throttle setting all the time on horizontals doesnt work all that well.

I know the current owner of one of those radios, Ivan had the parts replaced.

Ivan was running the "notch" as we call it right until he quit pattern in 2000, however he never used it while flying Imac, likely for the same reason I quit using it in pattern a couple of years ago, too much throttle work.

He just recently sold his back-up radios (9z's). I'm happy to have one of them and a mutual friend another. Complex things.

ratchet.

I got the 8103 Heli version becuase of the lack of ratchet (but you can take th e ratchet out of any radio). I personally will never own a ratcheted (is that even a word? LOL) radio. Gonna get a 9303 this winter and it's gonna be a Heli version as well. When flying any plane with alot of power (IMAC, foamy, heli, etc), a ratchet is no good.

On my Fut 9C I got rid of most of the ratchet but left just a little. I also bought heavier springs for the the gimbals and cranked them up. I really like the stick feedback I get from this set-up.
