Ok thinking of getting a DX6I what receivers can be used with it. I am mostly interested in ones that Hobby King sell as I need a few

Re: 2.4 mhz receivers

If you fly a dx6i you need to fly spektrum branded receivers. 2.4 stuff needs to be flown with the same brand becasue it works on different principles. For radio gear you either need all assan or hobbyking stuff to fly those recievers. Id say get a dx6i and stick with spektrum stuff. Many tests have shown that futaba and jr (airtronics and hitec also fit in here) are not affected by interference the hobbyking stuff is cheap but if you get a bunch of 2.4 guys flying you CAN be shot down.

Thanks Kevin that is what I thought but I thought I would ask just in case I was missing something. Still have that JR radio I bought from you couple years ago

Actually not so much the modulation techniques (there are three or four) as it is the binding of the units, exchanging serial numbers.

Even if the modulation is the same (DSS, FHSS, single frequency, ...) it would be unlikely that any manufacturer would allow second party receivers to work.

Sounds a lot like PCM.

Re: 2.4 mhz receivers

I agree wht what the other guys say. "Buy Quality"

I am a big time 72mhz guy and just starting to get into 2.4

I bought a Spectrum radio (DX7) because JR is my preferred 72mhz radio. I dont mind paying a premium for the spektrum recievers because I am more concerned about quality versus cost. One crash due to a crap radio will negate any money you saved buying the lesser quality Tx/Rx.

Max I won't disagree with that but when you need about 10 receivers right off the bat you stop smell the flowers and stay with 72mhz

Re: 2.4 mhz receivers

I also have a Spektrum DX6i and I love it. I too will only use Spektrum/JR receivers with my system. Yes they are still somewhat expensive so I save my pennies and buy one at a time. Actually, I picked up a couple of AR6100e RX here on RCC for $40 each and they were like brand new. Keep checking the for sale forem, there are deals to be had.

That being said, I still have a 72mHz radio, An Optic 6, and when the blitz started for the 2.4mHz stuff, I picked up 6 Hitec Rx's for $100. I'll use this for my smaller planes and SPADS and keep the 2.4 stuff for my electric aircraft and larger 1/4 scale, which will require me getting a couple of AR7000 RXs.

I know most of you, like me, hate switching electronics around but until either I can afford them or the price comes down on the 2.4 stuff, I will probably end up switching the receiver around occassionally...just rebind it to the different aircraft. Again as has been said, I would rather do this than buy cheep junk only to lose an airplane. You get what you pay for is very true. Its JR/Spektrum all the way for me!

Agreed!

I have 2 JR XP7202 radios and both are FULL

There's JUST NO WAY I would convert my entire fleet to 2.4...

I buy the Spektrum reivers only when I need it AND I can get a good price on one... othewise I am happy to stay with my 72Mhz recievers

Re: 2.4 mhz receivers

I have a fleet of .72 stuff aswell, and have only swiched one of my planes from 72 to 2.4 (1/5th scale super chipmunk), but as I have been adding to the fleet, the new machines get the 2.4 rec's.
My first was the 1/4 scale SU31, the big gassers have been known to have issues with gas engine ignition systems, so I thought I would just put the 2.4 in them to avoid the possibility.

I still have a bunch of 72mhz rec's and they all work fine, but there mostly for combat planes.
