2.4Ghz, for surface

I don't like to assume. So at the risk of sounding stupid, (but they say there is no such thing as a stupid question). My question is.
To convert my 2 stadium trucks from 27, to 2.4Ghz. Can I use my
Spectrum module based J.R. transmitter? And bind to a spectrum surface receiver, say 3ch?

Thank-You for your advice.

These are in the cargo trailer for Grandma to race the Grandson at the fun-fly's!

That's actually a really good question! I don't know the answer to it, though! I'm not sure if the 2.4 is any different from air to surface or not. I'm going to assume the latter.

Unfortunately, I used to race RC cars but I didn't have the cars and planes at the same time, so I never got to try it out.

Re: 2.4Ghz, for surface

All I know is my neighbour has a Spectrum DX3 for his cars and they work fine.

2.4 is open to anyone. There are no restrictions for any particular use as long as the device meets 2.4 standards (cordless phones, toys, video transmitters, alarms, routers, Ect can all use 2.4 legally). In Japan they do not allow DSM2 since it does not meet their specs so they have DSMJ that is a frequency hopping system. In many countries in Europe 2.4 is limited in power output at a lower value than allowed in North America.

Re: 2.4Ghz, for surface

Much more clear.
So I can buy a DX3e Radio complete for the one truck. And a second three ch receiver, and bind it to my 10X. This is my plan, Grandpa is having a hard time on the wheel transmitter!
Thank-You for your help.

Re: 2.4Ghz, for surface

Hi Dale:

I thought I read or heard somewhere that a surface 2.4g rx won't bind to an air 2.4g tx. Don't quote me on this. But I would definately find out first before spending any money.

Re: 2.4Ghz, for surface

Ok, I found it on the Horizon site. You can't mix Spektrum surface rx's and air tx's or vice-versa. It won't bind.

Here is the statement and the link.

"First of all, you can only use surface receivers with surface radios; the air receivers are not compatible with the surface systems and vice versa."

Re: 2.4Ghz, for surface

Thank-You Chris. This is what I really was after.
I followed this up a little farther now it is monday. Both surface, and marine receivers will bind to the surface transmitters. As for my disired configuration, of a stick for the steering, or tiller (rudder) I would have to use an air receiver such as one of my park flyer (AR6110e) receivers. Which is totally fine, and legal. According to Great Hobbies Tech dept.
Hope this may help others with the same question. -Dale-

Re: 2.4Ghz, for surface

Not all spektrum transmitters are compatible with all spektrum receivers.
DSM, DSM2, ...

There is a special three channel surface receiver, I would guess more immune to multipath interference.

Re: 2.4Ghz, for surface

There is also a special antenna configuration for Marine to deal with 2.4 and it's relationship to reflection off of waves. But they will bind to the Spectrum surface transmitters. -Dale-
