When to remove training gear?

How many "perfect" landings should you do before you get rid of training gear. I think I am real close, but the new footpring is damn small. In between my good landings I still get the odd "thank god for carbon fibre rods" landings. I suppose that is a hint in itself.

Unless you want to put them back on again........ I always say "practice nose in hovering first", if you have already moved into forward flight this should come quick... If you have to stay behind the tail at all times...even more reason to keep the gear on.....................

The test for heli wings at the Toronto Club doesn't even include forward flight which I thought to be strange.

What the heck does the test for heli wings have to do with removing training aids???

Every club is different.
I know of some clubs that hand out instructor wings to people who just should not be instructing.

If all your after is those little plastic wings then by all means join the Toronto heli club......

I was just referring to Hughes500E comment about forward hover. Probably a bad segway. I would want to know how to hover nose in and would think it would be important. I never thought about needing training gear on for nose in hover practice because I would have thought landing was landing. But I can see it would give that larger footprint if you mix up forward and aft directions.

Then leave your training gear on until you are happy with what ability you have reached.
Heck you can even do your heli wings test if you wanted with your training gear on.....you did get your plank wings with a trainer didn't you?

I will probably get a lesson or two at Toronto Heli school when getting into nose in hover and forward flight. Their equipment and buddy boxes. A lot cheaper than a crash - not that I plan to do that again.
