Sorry if someone has posted this but I was wondering if anyone had any expiriance with the Great Planes Chipmunk ARF?

I have heard there may be some difficulty getting it shipped to Canada? looks like a good plane and my building time is getting harder to get so I was thinking ARF.

Can't come into Canada due to copyright legal mumbo jumbo between Penzoil USA and Penzoil Canada. US gave OK to use logo, Canada Penzoil won't for some reason.

so that's the deal...well that's not a biggie, just have to get the wife to pick it up and drive it across the border.

so other than stepping on some oil company toes, what's the kit like? Has anyone built it/flown it?

Thanks

GP Super Chippy

I had one and flew it for 2 seasons ... until Ign. Battery died at 30 " altitude on a vertical Climb out
I have to say one of my favourite airplanes all time, I had a ZDZ40 for power and hitec digitals on the flying surfaces. It had no bad habits at all , landed like a dream and flew aerobatics Great ! (Imac) type ... definitely Not a 3D machice.
Mine weighed in at 14lbs. with fuel tank full ready to fly.
Fit and finnish were great , although I don't like ca hinges on Anything besides .40 airplanes, I used most of the other hardware suppled.
One issue with it if you use suggested 120 4 stroke you need to add 1 lb. of ballast in the nose. thats why I decided to go Gas power ... and would go that way again if I were to get another. I had to order mine from a Local hobby shop in Upper state NY., and go pick it up myself.

CA Hinges are all I personally ever use. Have had more success with these than any other for airplanes right up to 33%. Flying IMAC I see lots of even larger planes where the builder/assembler would only ever use CA Hinges.

I once crashed my Cap 232 (1/5 scale) and everything was almost completely demolished and the CA Hinges were about the ONLY thing still intact.

Besides being about the strongest hinge you can get, there are no hinge pins etc to get any glue into thus you always get the very best free moving control surface with these hinges.

IMHO only but I love em!

I'm happy you have had good sevice with ca hinges ... I have not ... especaily on Rudder, and Elevators... high vibration caused failure on more than one occaision on Giant Scale models with larger single cyl. gassers, Since then I use Robarts Hinges. Properly installed there isn't a gap , and are robust enough to serve many years of trouble free flying./
IMHO only ... I just don't trust them !

dhammond; thanks for the input, I am just wondering if a ST90 will have enough grunt for the Chipper? I don't think a ZDZ is in my RC budget, (gotta pay for avgas for the ol' Luscombe too).

If I were got to a gasser, I think it would be a Fuji.
