Question AR 600 vs AR 8000

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
Good evening all.

I finally got my 1st BNF radian pro.

My question is I have 2 AR 8000 doing nothing at the moment and wondering if I should swap the ar600 with one of the ar8000?

I have to say not sure the difference between them? would the ar8000 give me more range? better reaction?

Big thank you to all members who provided me with help! could not have done it without you guys & girls comments suggestions etc...

Re: AR 600 vs AR 8000

I've got 2 of both. The AR8000's came with my radio, the AR600's I purchased for other planes. Honestly, they are great, problem free, and easy to use.

Why go thru the hassle of swapping, when the AR600 is already installed.

They are both flight log, and telemetry capable, so capable of doing the same thing. Using the AR8000 in the tiny space available, and trying to find a home for the satellite receiver will be tough too.

My advice, leave well enough alone, and program the Radian to its full potential.

The AR8000 does have the capability for better signal reception (via the satellite receiver) and a faster 11ms frame rate. But these capabilities are only noticeable in larger and more capable planes which are setup to take advantage of this.

Bottom line: You won't notice any difference with the AR8000 installed in the Radian.

A few pilots have tried simple distance tests with 2.4Ghz. The effective range at ground level is somewhere around 2-3miles (3-5km). It's likely even higher than that up in the air as you have a clear line of sight. At that range, the Radian would be a tiny spec in the sky!

Also, like FM radios the range is not determined by the TX but the RX sensitivity. Government regulations limits the amount of power the TX can transmit it. So whether you fly a DX4e or DX18, they all transmit at the same power and the range is the same (assuming the same RX is used).

I'm sure the radios are capable of further than that, but do you really want to find out?

Bottom line, if you aren't doing FPV (first person view) with your airplane, the range is line of sight.
