ok guys im gonna share my stooooopidity !! with you ! so maybe somebody else can benefit
After putting a new ring in my RCGF 32 i installed the engine back in my RC GUYs Decathalon took the fuse outside and fueled it up to run it in for a bit .
i tethered the pane and primed up the engine
Well i guess while i was fartin around with it i put some slack in the tether
Plane tarted and i had the throttle open a bit so the plane lunged a few inches my instinct was to grab the fuse with my left hand as i was going thru the motions my brain said bad idea but hand said to late !
took the corner of my thumb and part of the nail with it then wacked my hand by my wrist a few times
Stalled the motor !
Broke the master Airscrew 18 in prop F$$#K
well i ran around for a bit looked at the thumb said a bunch of four letter words and freaked out my wife and granddaughter that were watching me in the window
my hand turned all kinds of purple and as feeling came back to my thumb i can feel every heartbeat in the nice ragged tip .
I had to pump out the gas with one hand fuel dots are hard to get out with one hand !
i had the wife help me carry plane back to the basement hanger .
I then called a buddy that had some oxy or crap like that from a surgery wow they work 1
still leaking hydraulic oil from my thumb as i type !
Work should be awesome in the am come to think of it so should sleep tonight

here are some pics so if you are grossed out beware
time for a beer 1

Re: Safety pics of injury Beware!

Those engines and their propellers are like taking a gas lawn mower, tipping it on its side and flipping the blade to start it!

Get well soon and thanks for sharing, we have to get the message out particularly for those new to the hobby.

In some ways electric motors are worse because they might not stall!!!

Re: Safety pics of injury Beware!

They don't stall john had a small 2830-1100kv with a GWS 8x3x5 on it and was holding it in my left hand when it slipped out and my instincts was to try and catch it with my right...blade stattered 1/4 of the end of my thumbnail but not before going under the nail first seperating the skin from underneath... Mmmmmmmmmm...hurt real good!

Re: Safety pics of injury Beware!

Ed,
If I makes you feel any better.(no I have never done this before, or at least that I will admit to). I have a Classic master airscrew 18x8 painted scale and balanced. I have no need for it so if you want you can have it. Ill bring it Friday night to the indoor if you want it. Hole is drilled for a super tiger 3000 so the hole may need to be shimmed to a smaller diameter.

Dave...

Red face Re: Safety pics of injury Beware!

Ouch!!!Hope I fair better on my RCGuys Decath than you did. Reminds of my brother with his ST3200 with a 16inch three blade that nipped him....the blade that cut him was 60 feet away when he got bit at half throttle... lotsa microsurgery...and three fingers are deformed now, but wholly intact...you are lucky me friend... they can throw a finger or two against the garage door in a second.
