Ending an Era?

Today I dropped into a well stocked hobby shop in Edmonton, and asked one of the clerks where I could find the SIG dope retarder. He say's come this way, so I follow him. A little way down the isle, he turns around and says to me, "You must be old-school".

Turns out, they never had any. His boss told me they don't make it anymore., and he can't order it

Now, how are we supposed to finish a Coverite covered airplane? What's the new wave? Please don't say ARF.

Re: Ending an Era?

Klass Kote Epoxy paint! Very nice easy sand high solids primer then spray it with a gloss or flat color, works great!

Re: Ending an Era?

Try "Goulet Aircraft Supply" 48 Airport Road, Edmonton 452-4242. I get most of my fabric aircraft painting supplies from them.

Re: Ending an Era?

Yep, still shows as being a current product in Sig's catalogue.

Your hobby shop just doesn't want to carry it.

Re: Ending an Era?

Personnaly I have switch to latex. You can buy it at any hardware store and you can have any color custom made for you. Just have to wait a month when done painting to clearcoat it with a fuel proof finish. Other benefit, you can do it in the basement and the wife will not complain...

Re: Ending an Era?

Hi. Thankyou all for your kind answers.

A number of good options have been tabled. I believe I'll finish the Astro Hog in Koverall and use up my remaining dope, and then maybe move-on out of the sixties.

Might even try out the latex idea on the next one, and clear-coat it with a polycrylic.

Thanks Again
